Salvation Mountain

salcolor

This was my first time at this place and it did not disappoint. I came here earlier in the day to check it out not even thinking of capturing the stars because it was really cloudy that day. I’m so glad I did come back later that evening. I had the Mountain all to myself along with the caretaker who watches over it. I really think I was fortunate to capture something magical.

Leonard Knight dedicated 27 years of his life creating this work of art until he passed away earlier this year in February. He lived in the back of a truck with no running water or electricity. I don’t think you have to be religious at all to get the message of love. I dedicated this image in memory of Mr. Knight.

There are 10 images taken at 30 Sec exposure, F/2.8, at ISO 3200 stitched together in Photoshop to create this pano over Salvation Mountain. The lights that you see in the background are from the town of El Centro, Ca

Salvation Mountain is located near the town of Niland just 2 miles east of hwy111 along the Salton Sea. I encourage all to come and visit this special place.

The Supermoon?

Unfortunately you won’t be seeing one from me. I don’t even own a telephoto lens. I did however capture the moonlight in a few images from Joshua Tree. I really like how these images turned out. I even caught a shooting star by Arch Rock.  I put together a small time-lapse from “The Visitor” Hope you enjoy it!

The Milkyway

What do you do when there’s a new moon? Go to Joshua Tree! Which is what me and my brother did over the weekend. Joshua Tree is the best place to shoot the Milkyway. It’s far away from any major light pollution and just absolutely beautiful during the nights.Joshua Nights

Anyone out there?

Borrego Springs

I was told Borrego Springs was a great place to check out  the wildflowers. On this particular trip I didn’t see anything. However, driving through this town you can’t help but notice to cool metal sculptures that are spread throughout the town. This gallery of metal art is called Galleta Meadows.  Now seeing a dragon in the middle of a desert is pretty cool. What better way to make it even more spectacular than to see it at night with the stars. This was 92 images blended and stacked around 50 minutes. I did a separate exposure for the foreground as well. The red lights came in handy!

If you’re ever in Borrego Springs these sculptures are not to be missed!

Eastern Sierras

South Tufas

Once A year I try to visit the Eastern Sierras to catch the fall colors. On this trip I had the chance to stay during sunset near Mono Lake. The colors there are amazing especially around the June lake loop! 3 days is not enough to capture everything I wanted, but I did get some great shots and I’ll be back again next year!

The Milky Way

ISO 2500 F/4 30 Sec

The past week I got a chance to finally go out and shoot the Milky Way. Joshua Tree National Park is always a great place to view the Milky Way because it’s so dark and far from any light pollution. It’s amazing what the camera can see. On another night I went up to Big Bear and got some amazing shots of the stars.
